15 Days of Giving

Day 14

Dear Valley Christian School Community,

Today is DAY FOURTEEN of 15 Days of Giving.

With tuition providing only about 60% of the needed income for a balanced budget, it is so important that everyone give prayerful consideration to participating in 15 Days of Giving.

As we come to the end of our general fund items, I do hope you will review the list below and select a topic that you would like to support.  Sometimes people think that because they cannot give a large gift, they will not participate.  But, it is all of us as a school family coming together, each doing what we can, that provides the necessary funding for our school.  Thank you so much for partnering together with us in caring for these needs.

The giving opportunities for programs for this year are:

Tuition GAP – difference between tuition and the actual cost of a VCS education

Salaries for teachers                                Transportation – school busses

Athletic Program                                      Technology

Performing Arts Program                         Maintenance for our facilities

Scholarships                                            Business Partners – banners in our gym

Support for ACSI accreditation visit         Spiritual Emphasis Week

Day 13

Dear Valley Christian School Community,

Today is DAY THIRTEEN of 15 Days of Giving. Our focus during this year’s campaign is to share operational needs that require donations in addition to tuition income.

One way that we are working hard internally to supplement tuition revenue is through our new Business Partner Program. It provides opportunities for business owners to increase their exposure and gain new customers, and it also provides our school community with a list of businesses to consider when they are shopping or in need of services. Among our school families we have many talented professionals: general contractors and skilled labor professionals, those in the medical field, real estate agents, veterinarians, auto mechanics, car dealership managers, insurance providers, pest control companies, loan officers, jewelers and many others! Attracting customers from our school family often means loyal, repeat business. Doing business with a trusted member of our community brings peace of mind and confidence. Everyone wins, and the school benefits as well!

If you are interested in being one of our Business Partners, simply reply to this email - development@valleychristian.org or call me at 406-396-5132 to find out about the opportunities. Space for advertising is limited, so don’t delay!

If you don’t have a business to advertise, take note of the ones that do, and when possible, take your business there first! We have some beautiful signs hanging in our gyms, ads in our programs, and buttons on our website to let our school families know who is partnering with our school in this way.

Thank you for your consideration,

Shannan Painter
Director of Development

Day 12

Dear Valley Christian School Community,

Today is DAY TWELVE of 15 Days of Giving. Our focus during this year’s campaign is to share operational needs that require donations in addition to tuition income.

Over its existence Valley has graduated 720 students, and during that time the school has always striven to be current in regard to all aspects of educational opportunities.

The obvious change over time has been in the area of technology.  Last week, we learned that a local organization, which is upgrading their system, will be donating a large number of computers and flat screens to us in the next few months.  What a tremendous blessing that will be, enabling us to upgrade/replace many of our computers.

But, of course, even with this wonderful donation, there are expenses which need to be addressed.  Software, firewall protection, configuring our new server and updating our phone system are items that need attention – and thus funding.

The opportunity of giving today is to assist with paying for those important expenses.  I encourage you to consider a gift of any amount to help defray these costs.  Whatever you give will be greatly appreciated and put to good use to help advance the learning experience for VCS students.

Ways to Give:

To give online, click HERE You can select the item you would like to give to from the drop-down menu.

Mail a check payable to Valley Christian School, 2526 Sunset Lane, Missoula, MT 59804 in care of the Development Office, and put the item you have chosen in the memo section, or drop off your check in the main office.

To make a commitment to provide additional funding, email Shannan Painter, Director of Development, at development@valleychristian.org with a note of your intentions and the amount you plan to provide.

Should you have any additional questions, please contact Shannan Painter at 406-396-5132.

Thank you in advance for your gift.

Day 11

Dear Valley Christian School Community,

Today is DAY ELEVEN of 15 Days of Giving. Field trips and athletic events are an important part of what makes a VCS education special.  But, transportation for such activities is something that often is taken for granted and not thought of as an expense to the school.

Our focus during this year’s 15 Days of Giving is to share operational needs that require donations in addition to tuition income.  The opportunity of giving on this day is to assist with paying for those important transportation expenses.

Transportation expenses include such things as making sure our busses are Department of Transportation approved; paying for drivers and their physical examinations; fuel for trips; maintenance expenses; and licensing and insurance costs.

The budget for these expenses for this school year amounts to $18,000.  With tuition providing about 60% of the needed funding, that leaves $7,200 to be provided through donations.

I know we all want safe and clean busses with qualified drivers so that our students can enjoy and participate in these field trips and athletic events.  With this in mind, I encourage you to support our transportation department.

Ways to Give:

To give online, click HERE You can select "transportation" from the drop-down menu.

Day 10

Dear Valley Christian School Community,

Today is DAY TEN of our 15 Days of Giving campaign.  Unlike our previous days where we have actively asked for help in funding different programs or items in our operating budget, today we are asking you to consider making a gift earmarked for Spiritual Emphasis Week.

Early on in the school year I talked with Nathan Cross, our Student Life Director, about the possibility of bringing in a Christian speaker to specifically challenge our secondary students in their faith walk.  What a great opportunity to intentionally speak truth into our students’ lives!  To my knowledge this is something that the school has not done at least in the recent past.  This idea resonated with Nathan, and tentatively we have several days set aside in March to host this event.

Currently, we don’t have any money set aside for this.  Would you prayerfully consider contributing towards this event?  If the funds come in we will actively work on selecting the speaker and work on getting them here for those days.

Thanks so much!

To give online, click HERE You can select "spiritual emphasis" from the drop-down menu.

Day 9

Dear Valley Christian School Community,

Today is DAY NINE of 15 Days of Giving. Have you ever stepped back after a day of serious cleaning and “picking up” your home – and thought “well done?”  The same thing can be said about VCS except it needs to be a “well done” day every day with hundreds of students, faculty, staff, parents and friends walking through and using the rooms in “our home”.

Our focus during this year’s 15 Days of Giving is to share operational needs that require donations in addition to tuition income.  The opportunity of giving on this day is to assist with funds for the maintenance of our school buildings.

Maintenance is not often thought about, but it is an important part of our school budget.  When you count payroll for facility and custodian positions, equipment, maintaining and repairing buildings, and the constant need to restock cleaning supplies, the cost of maintenance for this school year is $240,000.  With tuition providing about 60% of the needed funds, that means $96,000 is needed in contributions to meet the budgeted need.  And, maintenance is an area where “cutting the budget” really isn’t an option.

I know everyone reading this letter wants the school to be clean and well kept for our students and faculty.  So, I’d appreciate you considering giving specifically to this cause so that our school facilities remain something of which we will all be proud.

Ways to Donate Today:

To give online, click HERE You can select “campus maintenance” from the drop-down menu.

Mail a check payable to Valley Christian School, 2526 Sunset Lane, Missoula, MT 59804 in care of the Development Office, and put "campus maintenance" gift in the memo section, or drop off your check in the main office.

Day 8

Dear Valley Christian School Community,

Today is DAY EIGHT of 15 Days of Giving. Our focus during this year is to share operational needs that require donations in addition to tuition income.

With tuition providing only about 60% of the needed income for a balanced budget, it is so important that everyone give prayerful consideration to participating in 15 Days of Giving.

I realize that not everyone opens every email or even has seen all of the email letters sent out over the past week and a half.  So, at this mid-point of the campaign, I want to encourage everyone to review the giving opportunities thus far presented and select one or two that resonate with you – and then make the largest gift you can to support that program(s).

The giving opportunities are:

Tuition GAP – difference between tuition and the actual cost of a VCS education

Salaries for teachers

Athletic Program

Performing Arts Program

Support for ACSI accreditation visit

Scholarships

Day 7

Dear Valley Christian School Community,

Today is DAY SEVEN of our 15 Days of Giving campaign. Our focus during this year’s 15 Days of Giving is to share operational needs that require donations in addition to tuition income.  The opportunity of giving on this day is to support our TUITION ASSISTANCE SCHOLARSHIPS.

Let me share with you our mission statement:  “Valley Christian School exists to partner with Christian families that desire educational excellence taught through a biblical worldview so their children will be prepared for a lifetime of authentic faithfulness to Jesus Christ.”  We want to instruct as many students as possible in accordance with this philosophy. As a private Christian school we need to charge tuition, but obviously not all of our families can pay the full amount.

With this in mind we have tuition assistance scholarships through which we reach out to families and assist them with their tuition. The school gave out $134,000 in tuition discounts this year. Donations provide real dollars towards the tuition discounts that we have given out to our families with need.

We rejoice that a donor has stepped up to the plate and generously given a $7,500 gift towards scholarships.  They are asking others to jump on board to help match their gift!

Thank you for your prayerful consideration to invest in our children in this way.

Day 6

Dear Valley Christian School Community,

Today is DAY SIX in our 15 Days of Giving campaign.  The opportunity of giving on this day is to help with the expenses the school will have in acquiring school accreditation with the Association of Christian Schools International, ACSI.

As many of you know, Valley’s high school is currently accredited with the Office of Public Instruction.  For the past six months we have been going through a very rigid self-evaluation process towards accreditation with ACSI for the entire school.  All of our teachers have been and are currently involved in carefully looking at all aspects of our school program.  Coming out of this, we will be accredited not only with ACSI but also AdvancED, a nationally recognized accrediting organization.  As part of this process there are a number of costs associated with it—costs for teacher certification and professional development, a formal financial compilation/report which is required, costs associated with putting together the report, and costs associated with bringing in a team of professionals in March 2018 for the 4-day site visit.

Would you consider making a gift to help defray the $15,000 we have budgeted for this important process?  In addition to having our strength areas highlighted, we will also be given some specific areas on which to work.  It is our desire that by going through this school-wide self evaluation we will become a much stronger school.

Day 5

Dear Valley Christian School Community,

Our focus during this year’s 15 Days of Giving is to share operational needs that require donations in addition to tuition income.

Today is DAY FIVE in our 15 Days of Giving campaign. The opportunity of giving on this day is to support our strong PERFORMING ARTS PROGRAM.  All of our elementary students and a significant number of our Jr. High and High School students participate in either choir or band. In addition, we have musical productions at the elementary level, a junior high play involving all of our students, and a high school play planned in the Spring involving about 15 students.

If you’ve taken the opportunity to watch any of our programs, I know you would agree that our students have great depth in their talent, creativity, and performance abilities. That’s easy to see.  What is less obvious is all that happens behind the scenes, such as making costumes, acquiring props, buying sheet music, and paying two performing arts teachers’ salaries to name just a few.

As with other budgetary departments, tuition accounts for about 60% of the needed funds for our performing arts program. The performing arts program provides opportunities for self-expression and growth in confidence as students create and share their individual talents, while at the same time working with others to achieve something they could not do alone.  At VCS, students also learn how to use these talents to glorify God, rather than themselves.

Let me encourage you to make a contribution to support this vital program.

Day 4

Dear Valley Christian School Community,

Today is DAY FOUR of our 15 Days of Giving campaign. The opportunity of giving on this day is to support our athletic program.  Athletics can play a very important role in the lives of our young people:  stretching themselves physically, learning the value of teamwork, building character, and learning important life lessons from both winning and losing.  In addition, athletes learn how to respond to teaching and coaching, and also the importance of fulfilling responsibilities.

To meet the needs of our athletic program, there are a number of expenses incurred such as: purchasing uniforms, equipment costs, paying for referees, travel expenses (including accommodations), and coaches’ salaries.

Tuition provides about 60% of the cost for our athletic program.  Your gift is a way to tangibly support our athletes and coaches on our court and fields of competition.

Our focus during this year’s 15 Days of Giving is to share operational needs that require donations in addition to tuition income.  Helping our students expand their learning experience through athletics is an important aspect of a VCS education.  If this need resonates with you, I would urge you to donate generously.

Ways to Donate Today:

To give online, click HERE You can select “athletics” from the drop-down menu.

Mail a check payable to Valley Christian School, 2526 Sunset Lane, Missoula, MT 59804 in care of the Development Office, and put "athletics" gift in the memo section, or drop off your check in the main office.

Should you have any additional questions, please contact Shannan Painter at 406-396-5132.

Thank you in advance for your gift.

Dave Entwistle, Head of School

Day 3

Today is DAY THREE of 15 Days of Giving. The opportunity of giving on this day is to support our teacher and staff salaries. Teachers are the major “asset” of our school.  They spend more time with children each day during the school year than their parents. Isn’t it great to know that while at school, students are associating with mentors and role models who uphold Christ in all that is done, while teaching life lessons and values that are taught at home?

VCS is not unique in that teacher and staff salaries make up the largest portion of the school's budget. In the 2017-2018 school year, it comprises 77% of our operating budget.  $1.5 million is needed this year just for payroll. Tuition covers about 60%,leaving $600,000 to be provided by donations.

Our focus during this year’s 15 Days of Giving is to share operational needs that require donations in addition to tuition income. There is no other budgetary item more important than teacher and staff salaries. I urge you to provide the largest gift you can to help meet this need.

Ways to Donate Today:

  1. To give online, click HERE You can select “Teacher Salaries” from the drop-down menu.
  2. Mail a check payable to Valley Christian School, 2526 Sunset Lane, Missoula, MT 59804 in care of the Development Office, and put Teacher Salaries in the memo section, or drop off your check in the main office.
  3. To make a commitment to provide additional funding, email Shannan Painter, Director of Development, at development@valleychristian.org with a note of your intentions and the amount you plan to provide.

Should you have any additional questions, please contact Shannan Painter at 406-396-5132.

Thank you in advance for your gift to support staff & teacher salaries.

Dave Entwistle, Head of School

DAY 2

Our focus during this year’s 15 Days of Giving will be to share operational needs that require donations in addition to tuition income. These are not special or unique programs or activities, but rather items that are essential to maintain a quality educational program for VCS students.

These expenses exist because, while the current cost per student is $7,795, tuition charged is only $6,600. As a result, there is a  GAP of $1,195 per student between the actual cost and tuition charged. Due to multiple student and tuition discounts, this GAP is actually much larger.

Would you prayerfully consider making a GAP gift now, or making a commitment to provide additional funding towards this cause through March 2018? This would be a tremendous encouragement in helping the school meet this year’s budget.

Ways to Donate Today:

  1. To give online, click HERE You can select “GAP gift” from the drop-down menu.
  2. Mail a check payable to Valley Christian School, 2526 Sunset Lane, Missoula, MT 59804 in care of the Development Office, and put GAP gift in the memo section, or drop off your check in the main office.
  3. To make a commitment to provide additional funding, email Shannan Painter, Director of Development, at development@valleychristian.org with a note of your intentions and the amount you plan to provide.

For more information, please contact our Development Director, Shannan Painter at 406-396-5132 or by email at development@valleychristian.org
